Ponte MartiriIl pomeriggio del 28 aprile 1945 una cammionetta di soldati americani comparve in piazza a Isola Dovarese,
testimoniando concretamente che la guerra era finita. La sera del 28 aprile gruppi di ragazzi isolani andarono in giro per il paese a fare le serenate alle ragazze. La stessa sera giunse alle porte di Isola una colonna di soldati tedeschi (circa 200 uomini) in ritirata verso il Brennero. L’intenzione dei tedeschi era di attraversare il fiume Oglio sul ponte in ferro di Isola che era l’unico nella zona a non essere stato abbattuto dall’aviazione alleata. Una pattuglia, inviata in avanscoperta, rastrellò per le via del paese cinque giovani e li prese in ostaggio. Facendosi scudo di essi, la colonna attraversò il paese marciando lungo i muri e sparando a vista sulle finestre che si aprivano. Giunti al ponte, il comandante diede l’ordine di fucilare i cinque ostaggi che furono fatti sedere sulla spalla in ferro. Pochi attimi prima che venisse dato l’ordine di sparare, tre giovani si buttarono nel fiume. Due di loro si salvarono mentre il terzo fu raggiunto dalle scariche di mitra mentre stava nuotando e morì. I due ragazi rimasti sul ponte furono fucilati ed i loro corpi scaraventati poi nel fiume. On the afternoon of April 28, 1945, a camouflage of American soldiers appeared in the square in Isola Dovarese, testifying concretely that the war was over. On the evening of April 28 groups of Islanders went around for the country to serenade girls. The same evening a column of soldiers arrived at the gates of Isola Germans (about 200 men) retreating to the Brenner. The intention of the Germans was to cross the Oglio river on the iron bridge of Isola which was the only one in the area not to have been shot down by the Allied air force. A patrol, sent in advance, raked five young people through the streets of the town and took them hostage. Shielding them, the column crossed the town marching along the walls and shooting on sight on the windows that opened. Upon reaching the bridge, the commander gave the order to shoot the five hostages who were made to sit on the iron shoulder. A few moments before the order was given to shoot, three young men jumped into the river. Two of them escaped while the third was hit by submachine guns while swimming and died. The two boys left on the bridge were shot and their bodies thrown into the river. |
